Enroll
It’s easy to join us this summer! Apply early to increase your chance of reserving a spot in your preferred classes and to give yourself ample time to prepare for your arrival at UCI. Shortly after you register, we will send you a confirmation e-mail with information about how to start your UCI career during Summer Session.
Steps to Enroll in the Freshman Summer Start Program
Please note that Freshman Summer Start runs independently from SPOP (Student Parent Orientation Program). Choosing to participate in Freshman Summer Start is not a substitute for your required participation in SPOP, nor does your participation in Freshman Summer Start give you priority for any specific SPOP dates. Please make sure you plan accordingly and sign up for your desired SPOP date as early as possible. We recommend that students do not register for SPOP on August 3rd and 4th as this date conflicts with our welcome and move-in festivities.
If necessary, you may attend SPOP during the Freshman Summer Start Program, however please note that this may result in missing class or Freshman Summer Start Program activities. Visit the SPOP website for more information about SPOP sign-up and dates. Students who receive Summer Bridge Scholarships must attend a special mandatory orientation during the first week of the program and are not required to attend SPOP.
Step 1: SIR |
Submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) by May 1st. |
Step 2 : Academics |
Visit the Academics page to choose your desired course and an alternate choice for the Freshman Summer Start Early Start Program. This step does not apply for Summer Bridge students. |
Step 3: Placement Exams |
If you are planning on taking any math, chemistry, physics, writing or foreign language courses during Freshman Summer Start Program, then you should make sure to take the required Placement Exams as soon as possible. By taking your placement exams soon, you will know what courses (in the above subject areas) to take during Freshman Summer Start. For more information about Placement Exams, please visit the UCI Academic Testing Office website. You will also receive follow-up information regarding your placement exams. Please note that if you receive the Summer Bridge Scholarship, you will be required to enroll in UNI STU 84 and LPS 60. This step does not apply for Summer Bridge students. |
Step 4 (optional): Financial Aid |
If you would like to be considered for summer financial aid or a Bridge Scholarship, you must complete a 2012-2013 FAFSA by June 30, 2013 though it is recommended that you complete your FAFSA by May 31, 2013 to ensure your record can be successfully submitted and complete the online Summer Financial Aid Estimator by logging into My Aid by May 31, 2013 to be considered for the Bridge Scholarship or grant funding. After May 31, 2013 loans may be available, based on your personal financial situation. In order to be eligible to apply for summer aid, please also keep in mind that you must enroll in a minimum of six (6) units.
The State of California requires that you be told the following: Federal student loans are available to most students regardless of income and provide a range of repayment options including income-based repayment plans and loan forgiveness benefits, which other education loans are not required to provide.
