Start Earning UCI Units
Start early and get on track to finish your degree in two years! If you have unmet general education or university requirements, or prerequisites to meet for your major, summer is a great time to complete these courses. You may also take courses in your major or begin a minor. International pathway students will take a specific set of classes.
Explore Campus Resources
Become familiar with the layout of the campus and learn what resources are available. More importantly, you will learn how to use these resources before the fall rush. You’ll have exclusive access to specially designed workshops in places like the Transfer Center, the Career Center, the Learning and Academic Resource Center, and the Center for International Education.
Become Involved in Research
By taking part in the Transfer Summer Start Program, you will be introduced to the UCI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), which assists undergraduates in ANY discipline to find research and creative on-campus opportunities with faculty or off-campus opportunities with industrial partners, national labs, and other universities. Through this collaboration, you will have the distinct advantage of understanding how to become involved in research opportunities at UCI before most Transfer Students even step foot on campus!
Meet Faculty
Attend presentations by prominent UCI faculty who will give you a “front row seat” to the diverse academic paths and current research at UCI. You will be able to ask these faculty questions about their academic journeys, how they became interested in research, and why they do what they do. Some faculty members are looking for research and lab assistants who might start in the fall quarter.

Transfer Summer Start students have the unique opportunity to be part of a special group of transferring students. Imagine having a community of friends before the school year even begins! With a smaller starting group, you will be able to form cohesive friendships that could last a lifetime.
As a Transfer Summer Start student you will be invited to exclusive extracurricular events such as faculty presentations and panels, transfer mixers, academic preparation workshops, and much more!
International Students
As an international student, you will have the opportunity to be acculturated to your new American environment, and gain confidence and fluency using English in everyday living and in the UCI setting. You will have a special team of UCI staff members ready to help you transition to UCI and a group of like-minded students to help support you in your new surroundings. Special English Reading and Vocabulary (optional), and writing coursework will prepare you for your UCI fall classes.
Transfer Summer Start is for all new students who will be entering UCI as transfers in fall 2013.
